Learning Through Teaching............

After more than 20 years of teaching weekly workshops I have decided to take a sabbatical from the teaching world for a while.  With that said, many of my students have remained in contact with me via email or through my website requesting that I might start a teaching blog sharing my daily painting activities.  Blogging is completely  new to me so I will be learning as I go along......thus my title "Learning Through Teaching".  I have found over the years of teaching that I have learned just as much from students as they from me.  So let's begin the journey.

After living in Savannah, Ga. for the past 25 years I have recently moved and relocated to the beautiful little mountain town of Brevard, NC.  and opened a new gallery called "Dragonfly".  With that said....my subject matter has changed from brightly colored tropical birds and flowers to more of the flora and fauna of the Appalachian Blue Ridge Mountains.

Recently this past July my work was featured on the cover of The Laurel of Asheville.  I felt very honored that I was chosen for the cover after only being here for such a short time.  Brevard is a small town......think "Mayberry, RFD" from the Andy Griffith show.  We might be small but we have some of the best musicians and artist in this area.  I have found this little community to have an extremely supportive arts community which I find very refreshing.

This owl was started in one of my last workshops that I taught in Savannah back in January.  I wish I had taken pictures of the painting in progress but sometimes thats hard to do when your teaching and demonstrating.  I hope to post more blog content that covers my painting process with images of the progress.  So stay tuned for future post.
